	Twentieth Generation of Students of Library and Information Science Department

The school year ahead of us has enrolled the twentieth generation of the Library and Information Science Department at Faculty of Philology in Belgrade. Continuity of two-decade work and 350 graduate students provide an opportunity to take the first overlook and summarize the results, mostly in terms of the contribution that trained librarians-information specialists give to the development of Serbian librarianship.

Department of Library and Information Science proudly emphasizes that it educates promising library personnel, whose time is yet to come and who would be needed in case Serbian society gains more characteristics of an information society. The new, information economy, opens the doors to graduate librarians – information specialists to position themselves in a wide range of information workers: creators of information (scientists, researchers, professors, educators, teachers ...), workers in the field of information  science (scientists, engineers, planners, programmers, analysts ...), workers in the fields of system maintenance and data processing (system administrators, database administrators, operators and other personnel of information centers), a professional in the field of collecting, processing and dissemination of information (instructors, coordinators, consultants, librarians) and technical assistants (postal and bank employees, accountants, circulation librarians). Current problems of the status, image and social impacts are only common manifestation and a passing phase that can be overcame by growing number of professionals, strengthening of their professional self-awareness, strengthening the connections and engaging in professional associations. By vision and leadership, as well.

In this issue, the editorial board of the magazine PANČEVAČKO ČITALIŠTE wishes to emphasize the importance of the professional education of the librarians, its international dimension, dynamic structure and human component.
