Graduates, Where Are You?
Research on LIS graduates' whereabouts in Serbia
It is true – Department of Library and Information Science does exist at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade for twenty years. Every year the Department enrolls approximately forty freshmen students who are not entirely sure that they are at the right place. It is quite interesting that some of these confused young people stay, develop love for libraries and finally, graduate. The question is – what happens after? Do they hide their diplomas in the darkest corner of the attic, or enthusiastically go and search for a job in a library?
This paper focuses on gathering the data on professional developments of Library and Information Science graduates with the aim of evaluating their contribution to contemporary libraries in Serbia. Seventy eight (23%) LIS graduates participated in the survey which helped gather information that describe their status and the way they see the profession and work environment.
Key words: library, librarianship, information science, Department of Library and Information Science, diploma, job, position, satisfaction, perception
