Professional Education of Librarians in Croatia:
Yesterday, today, tomorrow


This paper presents the historical development of professional education of librarians in Croatia, and a brief overview of programs currently being implemented. It presents factors that affect the library education programs, such as changing the environment, increasing use of information and communication technology, an increasing amount of information available through various sources, and the implementation of the provisions of the Bologna Declaration. Particular emphasis is placed on courses that are offered and the knowledge and skills that are adopted after the undergraduate or graduate studies. It also presents student activity on all three sections, which occur as a result of taking into account the provisions of the Bologna Declaration and mentions the problems that library community deals with, and their possible solutions.
