Online Public Access Catalog

Abstract: This article gives a brief overview of the development of OPAC, as well as more present library needs to make their catalogs more transparent and understandable for users. Once again there is a chance for libraries to become "users first choice" in searching for relevant information by redesigning its OPAC. Two modern library catalogs are presented in the second part – catalog of the Vienna Public Libraries and the Columbus Metropolitan Library, and directory of commercial online bookstore Amazon.
