Copyright's Ever Expanding Empire: DRM, Licenses,
and Privatization of Public Information

The future for accessing media of all kinds (print, audio, video) is digital. As Brewster Kahle, the founder of the Internet Archive, has noted, for the first time in human history, universal digitization of all recorded human knowledge is not only possible, but can be done relatively quickly and cheaply. At the same time, the scope of copyright law has expanded to reach an unprecedented range of human activity, including efforts to digitize information of all kinds.
